Our vision as a church is to be “a community of friends, encountering the living Christ, growing in grace, while serving God and others.” Each phrase of that statement is intentional.
- “A community of friends...” Because Christian discipleship is something we do together, we are unapologetically relational in our approach to the Christian life. To be rightly connected with God is to be rightly connected to one another!
- “Encountering the living Christ…” The living Jesus is always at the center of our corporate life. We embrace that which is consistent with Jesus’ life and witness and reject that which stands opposed to his words and actions.
- “Growing in grace…” We are made right with God, not by what we have done, but by what Jesus has done on our behalf. To “grow in grace” is not only to claim God’s grace for ourselves, but to extend that same gracious spirit to those around us.
- “While serving God and others.” The central purpose of the Christian life is forever defined by Jesus in the “Great Commandment” which begins “You shall love the Lord our God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” We were created to love and serve God. But as Jesus reminds us in this verse, our love for God can never be separated from our love for others. If at the end of the day we have done our best to love God and to love other people, we will have done everything Jesus requires us to do.
