Infant and Toddler Care During Worship Services

NURSERY AND TODDLER ROOM

“Children are a gift from the Lord.”

Infants and Toddlers age 0-2 years old may be brought to the Infant and Toddler Rooms for loving care during the 1st and 2nd worship services.  The rooms are located down the hallway past the Sanctuary and are staffed with two Childcare Ministers in the Nursery (blue) at the first service.  During the second service, a total of four Childcare Ministers care for the infants to age 18 months in the blue room and the children age 18+ months to 2 years in the Toddler Room (yellow).  Our goal is that your children would associate these rooms with the loving kindness they receive there.

Simply sign your child in using the sheep tag system (clip goes on the child and the matching bracelet goes on the wrist of the parent for secure pick up).  You may watch for your child’s number on the black and red LED display in the right front of the Sanctuary should a need arise that requires your attention such as a diaper change or for a child who is ill.

Children in Worship

“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones.   For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven."   Matthew 18:10  Children belong in worship because they are a part of God’s people.  They learn to worship by worshipping.

Hints to Children

While waiting for Worship to begin:
  1. Read what hymns will be sung.
  2. Find the scripture reading in the Bible so you can read along at the correct time.
  3. Think of things you want to pray about during the Pastoral Prayer.
  4. Mark a star for times everyone stands up.

During the Sermon:

  1. Draw a circle around anything in the bulletin you don’t understand.
  2. Ask about it after the service.  Put a check mark by the parts you want to talk about.
  3. Draw a picture of a hymn or one of the readings or something you see or hear.

Hints to Parents
  1. Getting ready to worship begins on Saturday night.  Remind children of your expectations.  Remind yourself that no one expects children to be absolutely silent.
  2. Visit the bathroom before church begins.
  3. Don’t bring distracting toys or games to the sanctuary.
  4. Do bring a notepad so children can draw about what they hear.  Talk about their drawings on the way home.
  5. Sit as a family.  When we stand, let the small children stand on the chairs so they can see.
  6. Worship WITH and not BESIDE children.  Those who can’t read can hum or la-la along.  Help young readers find the hymns and scripture.  Whisper instructions – it’s not a sin to whisper in church.  Guide children through the worship bulletin.
  7. Let the children pass the offering plate.
  8. Children’s Bulletins for preschool and early readers are available from the ushers or in a basket with a lollipop on Communion Sundays if parents want to give them to the children during the Message.

The Congregation Welcomes Children

Remember the promise we make at the dedication of a child to nurture them in Christian life.  Children must be present in worship to learn how to worship.

As you welcome adults, welcome children also.  Speak to them and not just to their parents.  Offer positive reinforcement about worship behavior to the child and to the parent.  Pass the offering plate to children, not over their heads.  Thank and encourage children who participate in worship by being ushers, choir members, or readers.

Be patient with the learning process.  We are all children of God.  Growing up isn’t always easy, but it is worth the effort.  Remember Proverbs 22:6, “Train children in the right way, and when they are old, they will not stray.”  Let children know the church is a place they are loved and are safe.  Consider asking children to sit with you instead of their parents sometimes.

Childcare for 3-5 Years Old

 IT’S TYKES TIME!

“Let the Little Children Come to me," said Jesus.

Children age 3 to 5 are invited during the 1st and 2nd Worship Services to join us downstairs in the Sonshine Wing to enjoy a Bible story, playtime, snack and perhaps a craft to reinforce the day’s lesson.  Our goal is that your child will not only learn about the love of Christ but also feel it in the time they spend there.

Simply sign in your child at the hallway display next to the elevator using the sheep tag system (clip goes on the child and the matching bracelet goes on the wrist of the parent for secure pick up) and enter into the first room on the left.  You will be greeted by one of two Childcare Ministers who are prepared to teach God’s Word to your child using an age appropriate lesson.  You may watch for your child’s number on the black and red LED display in the right front of the Sanctuary should a need arise that requires your attention.   Children should be potty trained for Tykes Time.

Trinity's Kids:  We welcome all children into this community of friends to be loved and valued, so when and as God chooses, they may encounter and proclaim the living Christ, grow in grace and serve others.
